Hiatus Kaiyote in Taipei: A Night of Polyrhythms, Breath, and Future Soul

On October 23, 2025, Australian future-soul legend Hiatus Kaiyote took over Legacy Taipei and turned the room into a living, breathing organism of rhythm. From the very first note of “And We Go Gentle,” the air began to move differently — as if the audience wasn’t just listening, but syncing their pulse to the band.

What makes Hiatus Kaiyote so unreal live is their sense of flow. Their music constantly moves outside of standard time, 5/4, 7/4, 10/4, 6/8 yet it never feels forced. It feels like breathing. At the heart of the night was the electrifying conversation between bassist Paul Bender and drummer Perrin Moss, where grooves became questions and answers, tension and release, chaos and beauty.

Visually, the show was just as hypnotic. Totem-like symbols, shifting tribal patterns, and lighting that reacted like another instrument turned the stage into something between a ritual space and a futuristic dream. Nai Palm’s voice floated above it all — alien and warm, fragile and powerful,wrapping the room in something that felt both ancient and completely new.

The set leaned heavily on their 2024 album Love Heart Cheat Code, where sweetness, disorder, humor, and transparency somehow coexist in perfect balance. It was the kind of night where you don’t try to understand everything,you just let it pass through your body.

By the time “Red Room” hit, the crowd was no longer holding back. Bodies moved freely, eyes closed, souls open. It wasn’t just a concert,it felt like a reminder: this is why we love music. This is why we play. This is why we gather.

That night in Taipei wasn’t about perfection. It was about connection. And for those who were there, it will remain a glowing memory,floating somewhere between rhythm, light, and love.

2025 年 10 月 23 日，來自澳洲的 Hiatus Kaiyote 首度站上 Legacy Taipei 的舞台。從熟悉的〈And We Go Gentle〉的第一個音符響起，整個空間像是被重新校準了頻率，而現場的觀眾們，也一起慢慢把心跳對齊到音樂裡。

Hiatus Kaiyote 最迷人的地方，是他們對「流動感」的掌控。他們不斷遊走在標準拍子之外，在 5/4、7/4、10/4、6/8 之間自在切換，卻一點都不生硬，反而像呼吸一樣自然。當晚最令人屏息的，是貝斯手 Paul Bender 與鼓手 Perrin Moss 之間的「律動對話」，低頻與節拍像在彼此提問、應答，混亂與秩序不斷交錯。

舞台視覺是另一個令人著迷且難以忽視的存在。燈光隨著節奏變化，圖騰感的設計像在黑暗中緩慢發亮，彷彿某種古老儀式，又帶著未來感的金屬光澤，彷彿燈光本身也是樂器的一部分。主唱 Nai Palm 的聲音漂浮其上，既溫柔又陌生，像從未來降落的語言，包覆著整個場館。

演出內容以 2024 年專輯《Love Heart Cheat Code》為主，甜美、混亂、透明與爆炸感同時存在。那是一種不需要完全理解的音樂，你只需要讓它穿過身體。除此之外，也演出了許多經典曲目，當〈Red Room〉響起時，全場終於完全解放。身體開始搖晃，眼睛慢慢閉上，情緒被打開。

那天的台北夜晚，從來就不是為了完美而存在，而是為了連結彼此。我們在變拍裡迷路，在律動中重生，對於在場的每一個人來說，那會是一段永遠閃耀的記憶，存在於節奏、光影，與愛之間。
